Rio de Janeiro Tourist Information - Even if you wander through the airport in a jet-lag induced lethargy on arrival, make sure you call in at the excellent Riotur, TurisRio or Emratur kiosks that are on the second floor of the blue sector in Terminal 1 or in Terminal 2. The English-speaking staff will provide you with invaluable maps, accommodation options and details of what’s going on in Rio.

Riotur, is based on the 9th floor, Rua da Assembleia 10, telephone 2217 7575, Monday-Friday 9am-6pm. There is also a main information office at Avenida Princesa Isabel 183, Copacabana, telephone 2541 7522, Mon-Fri 9am-6pm and information kiosks at the rodovaria (bus station), telephone 0800 2000, daily 6am-midnight, and at Galeao and at Santos Dumont airport (both open daily 6am-midnight). Alo Rio is an excellent English-speaking telephone service, open daily 9am-6pm that tells you what’s going on and answers any questions you may have about the city.
TurisRio, 12th floor, Rua da Ajuda 5, telephone 221 50011, open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, which also has an office at the rodovaria, also offers a comprehensive information service as does Embratur, 8th floor, Rua Uruguaiana 174, Centro, telephone 2509 6017 which can give you information about the city and Brazil as a whole.
Weather - You can see exactly why beach-attire is so attractive to the cariocas with temperatures dipping to a very pleasant 20 degrees in darkest winter and peaking at a scorching 35 degrees during summer. The best time to go is between December and February, when the summer culminates in style during the flamboyant carnival. Due to the tropical climate, you may see raindrops from October to March which is no bad thing if they douse the humidity levels.
